About
I was born and educated in Davis from K-12 to UC Davis graduate school. I have over 20 years experience in education, 19 years as a K-12 teacher and more recently as an Education Program Consultant with the California Department of Education. I have worked in a wide range of communities, locally and internationally, including in community health education with the Peace Corps in Togo, West Africa, and later as the Chair of Liberal Arts during the founding year of the Abaarso School in Somaliland. While teaching in a Title 1 school in Fairfield, I also served as department chair, as an instructional coach for fellow teachers, and coached our school's soccer team. In addition, I volunteered as a leader for an anti-bullying program, served on the School Site Council, and district-wide planning and curriculum adoption committees. I created a nonprofit to support science education and coordinated the inaugural - and now annual - District Science Fair. After receiving my Master’s in Educational Administration, I moved on to the California Department of Education where I work with school districts and county offices of education across our state to better support all students. I am also in my second year at UCDavis for a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and will be teaching a course for single subject credential student teachers.

My goals are to:
Support Parents and Families
Parents are the first teachers of our children. Now, more than ever, they are partners in education with our teachers.
Ensure Equitable Opportunities
Some students have a more difficult time in class than others. The current crisis has exacerbated this divide even more. It is important that we identify how best to utilize our resources so that they are impacting all our students with equity.
Focus on Budgets
Current budget deferrals and the long term impacts of declining enrollment must be addressed.
